Our Story

Texas Iron Spikes was founded in the Fall of 1994 by a group of young men who wanted to create an organization that would benefit their university and community, while at the same time developing their fraternal bond through intramural sports, UT sporting events, and social functions. For one reason or another, each founding member felt that there was not an organization on campus that addressed these goals appropriately. The founders wanted to create a premier organization that embodied their vision, but also allowed each member to maintain their values, personal integrity, and academic progress.

The founding members decided to take their love for UT athletics one step further by becoming the official men’s spirit group for the University of Texas Baseball team. The group felt that this would attract well-rounded individuals to the organization by giving them the opportunity to demonstrate their passion in both service and spirit. America’s favorite pastime has proved time and again that it has the power to bring people together.

As the founding members proved, Texas Iron Spikes is an organization that selects and helps develop future leaders at the university and in life. These leaders showed commitment to the values expressed in our vision and creed, and strived to live by them daily. Throughout the short history of the Texas Iron Spikes, strong leaders have emerged to leave their lasting legacy on campus. Besides being active in Spikes, past members have received prestigious awards from the university and become members of other honorary organizations.

Throughout the history of the Texas Iron Spikes, young men have continued to join not only because they respect our vision, but also because they respect the way in which we accomplish it. Some members have in fact left other campus groups and joined Iron Spikes because they felt their values are better expressed through the organization. These members had the courage to stand up and leave without any regrets, because they felt their potential to accomplish something bigger. This potential formed the Texas Iron Spikes, a community service organization built on the foundation of brotherhood and volunteerism…an organization that would in fact capture both Most Outstanding Service Organization and Best Overall Organization in less than five years of existence.
